1.0 OverviewThe Klondike Derby is an annual event sponsored by the Order of the Arrow and involving troops from throughout the district. The idea is that each patrol pulls a sled bearing all their equipment along a course that leads from station to station. At each station the patrol is asked to demonstrate a particular Scout skill or meet some challenge involving a Scout skill. The patrol is scored at each station and at the end of the day the highest score wins the competition. This year the theme of the Derby is "Klue." The event is being held at the Cornish Fairgrounds. 2.0 Concept2.1 DescriptionWe will meet at the Rec Center at 7:15, assemble gear, pack the cars, and aim for a departure of 7:15 so that we can arrive in Cornish by 8:15. At the fairgrounds we will check in and then follow the instructions for the event. The patrol will proceed from station to station as assigned and eat lunch wherever they are at noon. Lunch will be a hot meal prepared using "leave no trace" principles. When the course is complete, all patrols will meet for the award of prizes and a closing ceremony. We will then return to Hanover.2.2 Schedule of EventsSaturday, 2 February0700 -- Advance party meets at Rec Center. Retrieve sleds and other gear. 0715 -- Scouts arrive.
