1.0 Overview
Each year the troop offers a hike to help the Second-Year Webelos Den satisfy the Arrow of
Light requirement for participation in an outdoor Boy Scout activity. This outing is a hike over
Velvet Rocks intended to satisfy that requirement.
2.0 Concept
2.1 Description
We will hike the AT from the CoOp Gas Station Parking lot in Hanover, over Velvet Rocks, past
the Velvet Rocks Shelter, and down to the road crossing at Trescott Road and the parking lot
there. During the hike we will conduct exercises in land navigation, hiking safety, trail cooking,
and nature study.
2.1 Expected Conditions and Difficulty
The AT over Velvet Rocks is relatively easy but steep in a few places. There may still be ice in
spots, but snow cover should be minimal by this time of year. If the weather is warm, expect
some mud. If it rains, expect water to fall out of the sky onto you. Check the weather before
departure and Be Prepared.
2.2 Special Requirements
Open to all scouts, scouters, and parents. The Webelos Den has been invited.
There are no skills prerequisites for this outing.
