Greenup Day -- 4 May 02

1.0 Overview

On the first Saturday of May each year, the town of Hanover sponsors a community-wide cleanup effort called Greenup Day. The town provides trash bags and citizens sign up to pick up trash along roads throughout the town. At noon, all the participants gather on the Etna Green for a picnic. Participants eat for free.

This event is, of course, a great way for the troop to do a good turn for the town. The time spent counts as service hours for all ranks that require service.

2.0 Concept

2.1 Description

This year our assignment is Trescott Road from Grass Road towards Etna as far as we can get. We will meet at the corner of Trescott and Grasse, where parking is available. We will then send half of the group out to the small parking area near where the AT crosses Trescott Road. The two groups will then work along the left side of the road, picking up trash as they move towards each other. When the groups meet we will cross the road, reverse directions and work back towards our cars. We will then drive to the Etna Green for the picnic, leaving our trash by the road for later pickup by the town.

2.2 Schedule of Events

1000 - Assemble at the corner of Trescott and Grasse.
1005 - Begin "Greening".
1145 - Finish up at cars and drive to the Etna Green.
1200 - Enjoy the picnic.
1300 - Pickup at the Etna Green.

2.3 Expected Conditions and Difficulty

Check the weather and dress appropriately.

2.4 Special Requirements

Open to all scouts, scouters, and parents.

There are no skills prerequisites for this outing.
