Strawberry Supper at Trumbull Hall
1.0 Overview
Each Father's Day, the Etna Ladies Aid Society hosts the Strawberry Supper, a fundraising event the proceeds of which go to helping local families in need. The event is held in Trumbull Hall, where the ladies serve a very nice roast chicken dinner with fresh strawberry shortcake for dessert. Our role is to bus tables, to wash dishes and assist with cleanup if needed. This event is a great way to top off Father's Day with a delightful community event, and a chance to do a good turn for our neighbors in need.
2.0 Concept
2.1 Description
We meet at Trumbull Hall at 4:45. Helpers will eat first, and the doors open at 5:00. As the guests begin arriving, we'll start bussing tables and continue throughout the event. The last guests are usually gone by 7:00 The Ladies use real china and silver. There are enough dishes to set all the tables, but not enough for the entire event, so while one crew is busing, another will be back in the kitchen washing dishes. Towards seven, as the event winds down, the dishwashers catch up with demand, so usually the dishwashing is complete about the same time as the tables are put away. The last cleanup tasks are usually done before eight. Camaraderie runs high, and the work goes quickly. It feels like you're living in a Frank Capra movie or a Norman Rockwell painting.
It is not necessary to stay for the whole event. With enough help, we can work shifts.
