1.0 OverviewThis is an afternoon outing where Scouts will practice tying knots and learn how to climb and belay at an indoor climbing gym.Advancement opportunities include Second and First Class and elements of Climbing Merit Badge. 2.0 Concept2.1 DescriptionWe will be meeting at the Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center–Quechee at 1300. After getting on harness and shoes provided by Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center, Scouts will have a belaying lesson and review safety rules. Scouts will take turns climbing and belaying. Scouts will practice knots that are used for climbing. All Scouts can learn to climb, but Scouts must be 13 years of age or older to belay other Scouts. The weather indoors is always dry.2.4 Special RequirementsOpen to all Scouts, Scouters, and parents. There are no skill prerequisites for this outing.A Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center Waiver must be signed by the parent of each Scout who is participating. Fee includes climbing day pass, equipment rental, and safety/belay lesson.
