1.0 Overview

We will hike the section of the AT from West Hartford, VT to Norwich, VT, performing some trail maintenance and camping overnight at Happy Hill Cabin. Advancement opportunities include service hours and Camping MB conservation project credit.

2.0 Concept

2.1 Description

We will meet at the General Store in West Hartford, and hike to Happy Hill Shelter and spend the night there. We will hike out to the trailhead on Happy Hill Rd. They will be opportunities for trail work, clearing downed branches along the route.

2.2 Schedule of Events

Saturday 04 Dec
1200 -- Meet at West Hartford General Store
1500 -- Arrive at Happy Hill Shelter
1800 -- Supper
1900 -- After dark games
2200 -- Lights Out

Sunday 05 Dec
0700 -- Breakfast, pack up.
0840 -- Hike to Happy Hill Rd. trailhead.
0900 -- Pickup

2.3 Expected Conditions and Difficulty

Saturday, highs around 30, Saturday night, 40 percent chance of snow, lows in the lower 20s. The hike is 3.5 miles the first day and just over a mile the second day on good trail.

2.4 Special Requirements

Open to all scouts, scouters, and parents. There are no skill prerequisites for this outing.

    Driving Directions: From White River Junction, travel 8 miles west on VT. RT. 14 (the highway on the north bank on the White River). There is an steel bridge which crosses into the town of West Hartford. At the point there is a parking lot by the General Store. Meet there

    Pickup Time:
    Driving Directions: Start at Dan and Whits. Take a left onto Beaver Meadow Rd. Drive 0.5 miles. Turn left onto Bragg's Rd. Drive up, following the stream 1.3 miles. Turn left onto Happy Hill Rd. Drive 0.5 miles to the trailhead.
